Former UK Ambassador Peter Mandelson faces a misconduct probe after Epstein files revealed payments and lobbying ties.

Former U.K. Ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson, faces an investigation just opened on the grounds of alleged misconduct in public office following the recent disclosure of millions of documents connected to the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to British police.

Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown sent “relevant information” to London’s Metropolitan Police (the Met) on Tuesday regarding the alleged leak of confidential government information by Mandelson to Epstein.

According to Epstein files recently disclosed by the U.S. Department of Justice, the sex offender allegedly paid Mandelson $75,000 in three transactions between 2003 and 2004. The documents further indicate that in 2009, Mandelson offered to lobby the UK Government concerning a tax on banker bonuses on Epstein’s behalf.

Brown noted that he provided Commissioner Rowley with his prior correspondence with Cabinet Secretary Chris Wormald, which he believes contains pertinent information. This includes a September 2025 letter from Brown demanding an inquiry into records -mentioned in Epstein’s files– about Mandelson’s alleged communications on what he called the sale of assets derived from the banking collapse.

Wormald’s November 2025 reply claimed a search of Mandelson’s inbox found no record of information or correspondence on the matter.

His statement follows Mandelson’s impending exit from the House of Lords this Wednesday and Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s move to strip him of his peerage.
